Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the opposition landscape in Nigeria witnessed a major political shift as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) sealed a strategic alliance in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the PDP South-West Secretariat, drawing top political figures, party loyalists, governorship hopefuls and supporters from both camps.
The agreement is seen as part of wider efforts by opposition parties to consolidate their strength and build a formidable coalition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, attended the event alongside the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle.
Both leaders endorsed the pact on behalf of their parties.
Representing the PDP, Seyi Bamidele appended his signature to the agreement, while Oladele Oyadeji signed on behalf of the APM.
In a dramatic twist shortly after the ceremony, Governor Makinde officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the APM.
The declaration was made during a massive rally held at Mapo Hall, where thousands of supporters gathered to witness the unveiling of his political movement, tagged “Reset Nigeria.”
Makinde Speaks To The Crowd
Addressing the crowd, Makinde said Nigeria must move beyond “politics as usual,” stressing the urgent need to rebuild public confidence in leadership and strengthen democratic institutions.
According to him, the Reset Nigeria agenda will prioritise economic expansion, employment opportunities, quality education, improved healthcare, infrastructure renewal, power sector reforms, security and institutional accountability.
He maintained that Nigerians deserve transparent and competent leadership capable of restoring hope and delivering meaningful development across the country.
Makinde also introduced a campaign website and a media resource hub designed to coordinate nationwide mobilisation and provide access to campaign updates, official statements and other materials.
