The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned Nigerians to prepare for thunderstorms and rainfall expected across several parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday.
The agency also cautioned that strong winds could occur ahead of thunderstorms in some areas, urging residents to take precautions and secure items that could be blown away.
NiMet issued the warning in its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja.
Monday Forecast
For Monday morning, thunderstorms accompanied by light rain are expected over parts of Taraba and Kebbi states.
Later in the day, scattered thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are forecast across parts of the North-East, Kaduna, Taraba and Kebbi.
In the North-Central, parts of Niger State may experience thunderstorms and light rain in the morning, while most areas within the region are expected to record thunderstorms with moderate rainfall by afternoon or evening.
Southern states are expected to have cloudy conditions on Monday morning, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain forecast over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.
NiMet said more areas across the southern region could experience thunderstorms and light rain later in the afternoon or evening.
What To Expect On Tuesday
The weather agency said patches of cloud would dominate the northern region on Tuesday morning, with thunderstorms and light rain expected over parts of Taraba.
By afternoon or evening, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected across most parts of the northern region.
In the North-Central, partly cloudy conditions are expected in the morning before thunderstorms and moderate rain develop over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau states.
Across the South, NiMet forecast mostly cloudy conditions in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia and the South-South region.
Wednesday Rainfall Forecast
On Wednesday morning, parts of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states are expected to experience thunderstorms with moderate rainfall under partly cloudy skies.
NiMet further predicted that most parts of the northern region could record thunderstorms and moderate rain later in the day.
The North-Central is expected to remain partly cloudy in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain possible over parts of the FCT, Plateau, Niger and Nasarawa states.
Most areas in the region could subsequently experience thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in the afternoon or evening.
For southern Nigeria, cloudy conditions are expected on Wednesday morning, while thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are forecast across most parts of the region later in the day.
NiMet Issues Safety Advisory
Beyond the rainfall forecast, NiMet urged Nigerians to remain alert to the possibility of strong winds accompanying or preceding thunderstorms.

The agency advised residents to secure loose objects that could be blown away and cause injuries or damage.
Motorists were also advised to avoid driving during periods of heavy rainfall, while residents were encouraged to disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets during thunderstorms.
NiMet further warned people to stay away from tall trees during thunderstorms because of the risk of falling branches or uprooted trees.
For the aviation sector, the agency advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports and relevant flight documentation to support safe and effective flight planning.
NiMet urged members of the public to continue monitoring its official weather forecasts and updates as the weather situation develops.
