The White House has thrown its weight behind England’s quest for World Cup glory after the United States crashed out of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Andrew Giuliani, who serves as President Donald Trump’s representative on World Cup affairs, said England would make deserving champions if they lifted the trophy during the United States’ 250th Independence anniversary celebrations.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail on Monday, Giuliani said the tournament would have a fitting storyline if England emerged victorious after the host nation failed to progress.
“If the United States can’t win on our 250th birthday, then a great storyline would be the English coming to America and winning during our anniversary celebrations,” he said.
Referencing England’s long wait for another World Cup title, Giuliani added:
“It’s been 60 years of hurt, I gather, for England, so that would be a beautiful victory for them if they won the tournament.”
The White House official expressed confidence in England’s chances, insisting Gareth Southgate’s successors have what it takes to go all the way.
“I do absolutely think England can go all the way. They are one of the top teams left now,” he stated.
Trump Following Harry Kane’s World Cup Campaign
Giuliani also disclosed that President Trump has been closely monitoring England captain Harry Kane’s performances throughout the tournament.
According to him, the US president believes Kane possesses the leadership qualities capable of inspiring the Three Lions to end their decades-long wait for football’s biggest prize.
He further revealed that Trump’s admiration for football is not new, recalling a previous round of golf involving the American president and former England captain Wayne Rooney.
Kane himself recently revealed that he spent time playing golf with Trump in Florida towards the end of 2024.
Describing the encounter as memorable, the Bayern Munich striker praised Trump’s golfing skills.
“It was a pretty surreal experience,” Kane said.
“I hope I can play golf as well as him when I’m his age.”
England Two Games Away From Ending 60-Year Wait
England remain firmly in contention for a second FIFA World Cup title and their first since lifting the famous trophy in 1966.
The Three Lions booked their place in the semi-finals after edging Norway 2-1 in a closely contested quarter-final clash.

The winner of the blockbuster semi-final will qualify for Sunday’s World Cup final, where either France or Spain await.
With the United States eliminated from the competition, comments from the White House have now added an unexpected political dimension to England’s pursuit of a long-awaited World Cup triumph.
