The brutal killing of members of Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo’s family in Plateau State has now crossed Nigeria’s borders, drawing the attention of one of the country’s most influential international partners.
The United States Government has publicly condemned the attack, describing it as “horrific” and calling on Nigerian authorities to ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
The condemnation, issued through the US Mission in Nigeria, adds fresh international pressure on the Federal Government as concerns continue to grow over the recurring violence that has claimed hundreds of lives across communities in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
For many Nigerians, the statement raises an uncomfortable question: How many more deaths will it take before these attacks stop?
‘The Perpetrators Must Be Held Accountable’
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Wednesday, the US Mission expressed sympathy with the families affected by the latest attack while warning that repeated violence against Christian communities and other vulnerable groups cannot continue without consequences.
“The perpetrators must be held accountable, and urgent action is needed to strengthen security and protect Christians and other vulnerable communities,” the mission stated.
The United States described the killings as another painful reminder of the fragile security situation in parts of Nigeria, stressing that stronger measures are urgently needed to prevent similar tragedies.
A Familiar Pattern, A Growing Concern
The attack on Rev. Dachomo’s family is not an isolated tragedy.
For years, communities across Plateau and other parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt have endured deadly attacks that have left families shattered, villages deserted and survivors living in fear.
Each fresh incident often follows a familiar cycle—mourning, condemnation, promises of investigation and renewed calls for justice.
Yet, for many victims, justice remains painfully out of reach.
It is this recurring pattern that appears to have prompted the latest intervention from Washington.
The US Mission noted that it had recently discussed Nigeria’s security situation with government officials, emphasizing the need for stronger action to prevent further bloodshed.

While condemning the killings, the United States also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria in tackling terrorism and violent extremism.

The mission said it would continue working with the Nigerian government and international partners to improve security and protect the rights of all citizens to live and worship freely.
