The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki has dismissed concerns over former President Goodluck Jonathan remaining silent after being unveiled as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The group insists that Jonathan’s refusal to publicly comment on the development should not be interpreted as rejection, but rather as part of a deliberate and calculated political approach.
Why Jonathan Hasn’t Spoken
Speaking on behalf of the faction, Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong argued that silence can sometimes be a more powerful political tool than public declarations.
According to him, Jonathan’s quiet posture is consistent with the leadership style he has displayed throughout his political career.
He maintained that the former president has never been known for aggressive political campaigns or public struggles for power.
Instead, he suggested that Jonathan’s political journey has often been shaped by invitations and consensus rather than active lobbying.
“Silence Is Also Communication”
Defending the former president’s lack of public reaction, Ememobong said many people misunderstand the significance of political silence.
He argued that not every politician responds immediately to major developments and that remaining quiet can itself be a strategic form of communication.
According to him, Jonathan’s current position mirrors previous moments in his political rise when he allowed events to unfold without making dramatic public statements.
PDP Faction Stands Firm on Jonathan’s Candidacy
Despite the absence of an official acceptance speech from Jonathan, the Turaki-led faction remains adamant that he is their choice for the 2027 presidential race.
Party officials insist they have fulfilled their responsibility by publicly nominating him and placing his name before Nigerians.
The group believes that until Jonathan expressly rejects the nomination, there is no reason to conclude that he is not interested in the contest.
A Political Calculation or Waiting Game?
Jonathan’s silence has continued to fuel speculation across Nigeria’s political landscape.
While supporters of the faction view his quiet approach as strategic, many Nigerians argue that the former president’s failure to publicly acknowledge the nomination leaves room for uncertainty.

Political observers say the development reflects the growing intrigue surrounding the 2027 election and the increasing efforts by various groups to position key figures ahead of the race.
Questions Continue to Surround Jonathan’s Next Move
The former president has yet to issue any official statement confirming or rejecting the endorsement.
That silence has created a political vacuum filled with competing interpretations and assumptions.
For now, the Turaki-led faction appears determined to maintain its position that Jonathan remains firmly in the race, regardless of the absence of a public declaration.
As political activities ahead of 2027 gather momentum, attention will remain focused on whether Jonathan eventually breaks his silence, or allows it to continue speaking for him.
