Nigerian Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti has stirred controversy with claims surrounding the recent African tour of American streamer IShowSpeed.

The online personality, who traveled across about 20 African countries in January 2026, had publicly said the trip was aimed at showcasing and celebrating African culture. But Seun Kuti is not convinced.
In a video posted to his social media, the singer alleged that the tour had a hidden agenda.
According to him, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk was the real force behind the trip, supposedly using it to assess the reach of satellite coverage across parts of Africa.
Kuti also shared a personal experience tied to the visit.
He explained that the tour’s promoter—whom he described as a friend—had initially reached out to arrange a meeting during the Nigeria leg of the trip.
Undisclosed Motives
He agreed, but said the meeting never materialised, and subsequent attempts to reach the team were ignored.
Reflecting on the situation, Kuti suggested that such encounters often come with undisclosed motives, arguing that public-facing engagements may mask private objectives.
He further claimed that he later learned, through undisclosed sources, that the tour’s real purpose involved mapping satellite penetration, particularly in more remote or less-developed areas.

Despite his strong assertions, no evidence has been presented to support the claim, and neither IShowSpeed nor Elon Musk has publicly responded to the allegation.
