A legal dispute has emerged between Nigerian media figure Roby Ekpo and his estranged wife, Mayowa Lambe, following remarks he made about their past relationship in a recent podcast appearance.

In a cease-and-desist letter dated April 22, attorneys representing Lambe—through Aunt Landa’s Bethel Foundation—accused Ekpo of making defamatory statements and circulating misleading claims about her on public platforms.
The notice alleges that his comments, particularly those shared during podcast interviews, form part of a sustained effort to present unverified personal allegations as fact.
According to the legal team, these statements have triggered reputational harm, exposing Lambe to online abuse, ridicule, and targeted harassment.
The letter demands that Ekpo immediately remove all content deemed defamatory, issue a formal public apology, and pay ₦100 million in damages.
He has also been given a 48-hour deadline to comply, failing which legal proceedings will be initiated.
The notice further warns that third parties who continue to spread the disputed claims could also face consequences.

In The Beginning
Public attention around the former couple intensified after Ekpo’s appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he spoke candidly about the breakdown of their marriage.
He described emotional distress following what he claimed was the sudden discovery of Lambe’s remarriage in the United States.
Ekpo recounted that they met via Instagram in 2015 and married soon after a brief courtship.
He claimed their relationship was largely private until recent events brought it into the spotlight.
During the interview, he spoke about marital challenges, including disagreements around intimacy and their struggles with having children.
He also alleged that while he underwent medical checks related to fertility, Lambe was secretly using contraceptives.
Additionally, Ekpo stated that he financially supported Lambe for several years while she lived abroad, sending her money consistently throughout that period.
Contradictions and Legal Response
Lambe’s legal representatives have strongly disputed Ekpo’s account, asserting that the marriage had already been formally and mutually dissolved prior to her remarriage.
They argue that his public narrative misrepresents the timeline and circumstances, potentially misleading audiences and generating undue sympathy at her expense.
The foundation further claims that Ekpo’s statements have fueled coordinated online attacks against Lambe, amplifying the damage caused by the controversy.
Public Reaction
The situation has sparked widespread debate online, with opinions sharply divided.
While some sympathise with Ekpo’s account, others question the appropriateness of discussing deeply personal matters in such a public setting.

Lambe has not directly addressed the allegations but has shared social media posts suggesting she is content and moving forward with her life.
As of now, Ekpo has yet to issue a response to the legal notice.
