As Nigeria battles rising insecurity across several parts of the country, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has met with a senior United States delegation to strengthen security cooperation between both nations.

The meeting, held in Abuja, brought together Nigerian officials and a high-powered US team led by the newly confirmed US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Frank Garcia, who is on his first official visit to Nigeria since assuming office earlier this year.
Nigeria, US Review Security Collaboration
Ribadu said discussions centred on evaluating the progress made under the Nigeria–US Joint Working Group while exploring fresh areas of collaboration to tackle emerging security threats.
According to the NSA, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening intelligence sharing, strategic dialogue and cooperation on issues of mutual security interest.
Sharing details of the meeting on his official Facebook page, Ribadu described the engagement as another step towards deepening the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and the United States.
“The meeting strengthened the strong and enduring Nigeria–US partnership and assessed the progress of our Joint Working Group.
“We restated our shared commitment to deeper dialogue, cooperation and mutual security priorities,” Ribadu wrote.
Meeting Comes Amid Growing Security Challenges
The high-level engagement comes as Nigeria continues to confront escalating security concerns across different regions of the country.

Communities in several states have faced repeated attacks by terrorists, armed bandits and other criminal groups, while kidnapping for ransom remains a persistent threat in many parts of the country.
The continued wave of violence has claimed hundreds of lives, displaced families and heightened calls for stronger security measures and greater international cooperation.
Against this backdrop, the renewed Nigeria-US security discussions are expected to reinforce existing partnerships aimed at improving intelligence gathering, strengthening counterterrorism efforts and enhancing regional stability.
