Nnamdi Kanu Dissolves IPOB Directorate, Announces New Leadership Structure

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has announced a major internal shake-up within the organisation, dissolving its third Directorate of State (DOS) administration and unveiling a new leadership structure.

Nnamdi Kanu Dissolves IPOB Directorate, Announces New Leadership Structure

Kanu made the announcement in a personally signed statement released on Wednesday, describing the move as part of efforts to strengthen coordination and improve administrative efficiency within the group.

“4th Administration” Takes Over IPOB Affairs

According to him, the decision was taken under the authority vested in him as the leader of the movement.

“I hereby dissolve the 3rd Administration of the Directorate of State (DOS) and inaugurate the 4th Administration with immediate effect,” he stated.

Kanu said the newly constituted leadership would immediately take charge of the coordination and daily administration of the organisation worldwide.

As part of the restructuring, he appointed US-based Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ as the new Head of the Directorate of State, saying the choice followed a review of the outgoing leadership and the need for improved efficiency.

Reasons for Restructuring

Kanu explained that the dissolved administration fell short in key areas, including internal cohesion, communication, and welfare support for detained members of the group.

“Any administration entrusted with IPOB affairs must protect the movement, defend its integrity, and advance its strategic goals,” he said.

He also accused the previous leadership of weakening the movement through what he described as internal distractions and failure to adequately support detained members.

New Advisory Council and Key Appointments

As part of the reorganisation, Kanu also announced the creation of an Elders Advisory Council to provide strategic guidance to the new administration.

He directed all IPOB structures globally to recognise and cooperate with the newly inaugurated leadership, stating that the changes were aimed at restoring discipline and unity.

Key appointments in the new structure include:

  • Nwada Ogwu Nnennaya Anya I – Head of Finance and Budget Planning
  • Mazi Chigozie Okekenta – Coordinator of Coordinators
  • Dr Chukwudi Nwogwugwu – Head of Medical and Welfare Planning
  • Barrister Ikechukwu Onuoha – Head of Media
  • Comrade Emma Powerful – Spokesperson and Media/Publicity Secretary

Kanu also named regional and continental representatives across Africa, Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East, along with coordinators for several countries including Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, and Israel.

The restructuring marks one of the most significant internal leadership changes within IPOB in recent times.
