Arochukwu in Abia State was wrapped in grief and solemn reflection on Thursday as the remains of late Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo, returned home ahead of his final burial rites.
The atmosphere in the community shifted as a convoy bearing the actor’s body arrived quietly, marking a painful moment for family members, friends, and colleagues who had gathered in anticipation.
In a symbolic gesture of respect, the convoy made a brief stop at the palace of the traditional ruler, the Eze Arochukwu, before proceeding to the family compound where final preparations were carried out.
Nollywood Stars Join Final Journey Home
As word spread through the town, residents joined members of the entertainment industry in a slow procession through parts of the community, turning the day into an emotional farewell celebration of life.
Mourners dressed in customised T-shirts bearing Ekubo’s portrait, while others held framed photographs of the late actor as they paid their last respects.
Among those present were close associates and Nollywood figures including IK Ogbonna, Ini Edo, Omoni Oboli, and Yomi Casual, who stood in solidarity with the grieving family.

The actor, who reportedly battled kidney cancer privately, passed away on May 11 at the age of 40, leaving behind his wife, parents, and siblings.
Final Burial Arrangements and Legacy
Following the interment, a reception is scheduled to hold at Mary Slessor School in Amanagwu Village, where family members, friends, and sympathisers are expected to gather to celebrate his life and legacy.
Earlier, a service of songs held on June 10, 2026, had already drawn several prominent figures from Nigeria’s film and music industry, highlighting the impact Ekubo had on the entertainment world.
His passing continues to resonate across Nollywood, where colleagues describe him as a vibrant presence whose influence extended beyond the screen.
