The Nigerian Christian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of gospel actor Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, best known for his role as Flora’s husband in the popular Mount Zion Faith Ministries movie series, Abattoir.

The news of his passing was announced on Wednesday in a statement shared by the Bowen University Alumni Association via its official Instagram page.
Although the association did not disclose the cause of his death, it described Oyeyemi as a devoted drama minister, respected alumnus and committed Christian whose life and ministry impacted countless people through faith-based films.
In its tribute, the association extended condolences to his family and urged members of the alumni community to keep them in their prayers during this difficult time.
It also encouraged alumni residing in Ibadan and surrounding communities to attend his funeral and honour his memory.
Burial Arrangements Announced
According to details released by the family and organisers, a Service of Songs will be held in Ibadan on Thursday, July 2, while the late actor will be laid to rest on Friday, July 3, at the Garden of Saints Cemetery.
Mourners attending the burial activities have been requested to wear white attire as a symbol of hope and celebration of his Christian faith.
A Life Dedicated to Gospel Films
Beyond his memorable appearance in Abattoir, Oyeyemi featured in several productions by Mount Zion Faith Ministries, earning admiration for portraying characters that reflected Christian values and biblical teachings.
Some of his notable works include Fiwajomi, Seyifunmi, Olukoya, and Finding Grace, among other gospel movies.
Throughout his acting career, he remained committed to using film as a platform for evangelism, inspiring audiences with stories centred on faith, hope and redemption.
Another Loss for the Abattoir Family
Oyeyemi’s death adds to the growing list of losses suffered by members of the Abattoir cast in recent years.
In February 2025, actress Toluwalope Adegboyega-Alagbe, who portrayed Flora and played Oyeyemi’s on-screen wife in the series, passed away after sustaining severe injuries in a road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 26, 2024.

The tragic crash also claimed the life of one of her two-year-old twin daughters.
The Christian movie community had earlier mourned another Abattoir star, Moses Korede Are, popularly known as Baba Gbenro, who died in 2024.
Oyeyemi’s passing has once again left colleagues, fans and members of the Christian entertainment community grieving the loss of another actor whose contributions helped shape Nigeria’s gospel film industry.
