The Labour Party is considering legal steps against its former National Chairman, Julius Abure, over allegations that he and associates are still operating party-branded platforms without authorisation.

The issue came to light in Abuja on Monday, April 20, 2026, as the party’s National Working Committee led by Nenadi Usman raised concerns about lingering influence from the previous leadership.
According to party insiders, several social media accounts believed to be controlled by former officials remain active, creating confusion about the party’s official communications.
One account on 𝕏, @LabourpartyNGR_, has reportedly continued to present itself as an authentic voice of the party while sharing messages that contradict its current position.
Formal Petition
The situation escalated after a post circulated online claiming that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso were preparing to run again under the Labour Party platform.
The party’s current leadership swiftly dismissed the claim, stressing that it did not originate from any recognised channel and should be disregarded.
Speaking on the development, media aide Ken Asogwa revealed that the party has formally petitioned the Nigeria Police Force to help recover its verified 𝕏 account, LabourPartyNG, which is believed to still be under the control of the former leadership.
He noted that the matter is now being handled by the Force Intelligence Department, with individuals linked to the accounts — including Abure and Umar Farouk — said to be cooperating with investigators by providing relevant details about their involvement.
Extended Dispute
Beyond 𝕏, the dispute also extends to other platforms, including a Facebook page, Labour Party-Nig, which has built a sizable following, as well as the contested LabourPartyNG handle.
The party emphasised that it has repeatedly issued public advisories warning members and the general public about unauthorised accounts.
However, it said the recent misleading post made it necessary to reiterate its position.

For now, the Labour Party maintains that it does not operate any official social media accounts, as efforts continue to reclaim full control of its digital presence.
