The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for a range of entry-level positions across different cadres.
The electoral umpire announced that applications opened on Monday, July 20, and will close on Monday, July 27, urging interested candidates to complete their registration before the deadline.
According to the commission, the recruitment is aimed at strengthening its workforce to enhance the delivery of key electoral responsibilities, including voter registration, election logistics, data management and electoral administration.
INEC also emphasised that the exercise is completely free, warning applicants not to pay anyone for employment or special consideration.
Positions Available
The commission said vacancies are available across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12, covering professional and entry-level positions.
For professional roles, INEC is recruiting qualified accountants, lawyers, ICT officers, engineers, quantity surveyors, clinical officers and other specialists.
Applicants for these positions are expected to possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in relevant disciplines. Some roles also require postgraduate qualifications, recognised professional certifications and at least two years of post-qualification experience.
Accepted professional certifications include those issued by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN).
Candidates must also present a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate and demonstrate strong analytical, communication and ICT skills.
Registration Area Officer, Executive Officer Positions
INEC is also recruiting Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) on Grade Level 08.
Applicants for the role must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences, alongside an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate.
The commission said successful candidates should possess good record management skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office and other ICT applications.
For the Executive Officer (Registration Officer) position on Grade Level 07, applicants are required to hold a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or an equivalent qualification.
Candidates applying for the role must also have basic computer knowledge, data handling skills and good communication abilities.
General Requirements
INEC stated that applicants must not be older than 35 years at the time of application.
Prospective candidates are also required to provide a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the chairman or secretary of their local government area.
Other conditions include being physically and mentally fit, possessing good character, having no criminal record and being willing to work anywhere in Nigeria.

The commission added that successful applicants must demonstrate discipline, integrity and commitment to public service.
How To Apply
Interested applicants are required to visit the official INEC recruitment portal, create an account using their personal details, email address and National Identification Number (NIN), and verify their email before proceeding with the application.
Candidates are expected to select their preferred cadre, upload all required documents—including passport photograph, birth certificate or age declaration, O’Level results, academic certificates, local government identification and NYSC certificate where applicable—and review their information carefully before submission.
INEC warned that applicants would not be able to change their selected position after submitting their application.
The commission also noted that only shortlisted candidates would be contacted for the next stage of the recruitment process.
Reiterating its earlier warning, INEC advised applicants to beware of fraudsters, stressing that the recruitment exercise is free and anyone found submitting false information or fake certificates would be disqualified and could face prosecution.
