INEC Debunks Viral Report Claiming Voter Registration Was Suspended In Delta

The electoral commission clarified that the report, which circulated on social media, did not originate from INEC and should be disregarded by members of the public.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Nseabasi Udom, described the publication as false, misleading and capable of creating unnecessary confusion among eligible voters.

According to Udom, the commission’s Continuous Voter Registration exercise is progressing as planned under its approved rotation schedule across the state.

The Deployment

INEC explained that the registration team was deployed to Ibusa on Thursday in line with the timetable, where the exercise was successfully conducted without any disruption.

The commission added that the CVR exercise in Akwukwu Igbo has not been cancelled and is scheduled to resume from July 6 to July 10 as contained in the official local government rotation programme.

INEC, therefore, urged residents of Akwukwu Igbo and neighbouring communities to ignore the viral message and rely solely on information released through its official communication channels.

The commission also encouraged all eligible voters to continue participating in the registration and voter update exercise as scheduled, assuring them that there had been no suspension or disruption of the process.

Reaffirming its commitment to a transparent, credible and accessible Continuous Voter Registration exercise, INEC assured residents across Delta State that every eligible voter would be given equal opportunity to register and participate in future elections.
