Babcock University has distanced itself from a certificate circulating online in the name of comedian and content creator Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe, insisting the document was not issued by the institution.

The university’s reaction follows claims by the entertainer during a recent interview that he graduated from the institution with outstanding academic results in Biochemistry.
The controversy gained momentum after Carter Efe shared what he described as his 2023 graduation certificate on social media, prompting widespread reactions and questions about its authenticity.
Responding to the development, the university issued a statement rejecting the document outright, maintaining that it bears no connection to its official records or certification process.
According to the institution, several features on the certificate are inconsistent with its academic standards and graduation procedures.
“First Class Upper Keh”
Among the discrepancies highlighted was the use of the phrase “First Class Upper,” which the university said is not a classification recognised within its academic system.
Babcock explained that students who attain the highest academic distinction graduate with First Class Honours, adding that the designation appears only on official degree certificates and academic transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar.

The university also dismissed suggestions that it presents honorary certificates to undergraduate students in recognition of academic performance, stressing that no such practice exists.
In its statement, the institution warned members of the public to be cautious of forged academic documents bearing its name, noting that fake certificates, including those carrying non-existent classifications, have been circulating.
It added that legal steps have been initiated over the alleged forgery as part of efforts to protect the integrity of its academic credentials.
