Falana to Defend Adeyemi as FG Files Forgery, Impersonation Charges Over Alleged Fake Presidential Appointment

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) is set to represent Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi in a criminal case filed by the Federal Government over allegations of conspiracy, forgery, impersonation and the use of forged presidential documents.

Falana to Defend Adeyemi as FG Files Forgery, Impersonation Charges Over Alleged Fake Presidential Appointment

Adeyemi, who recently accused the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, of demanding hundreds of millions of naira in bribes to facilitate his appointment into a government position, is now facing an eight-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that Falana will lead Adeyemi’s legal defence when proceedings commence.

FG Levels Eight Charges Against Adeyemi

The Federal Government accused Adeyemi of conspiring with two other suspects identified simply as Femi and Anu, who are currently at large, to forge official State House documents and impersonate a federal government official.

According to court documents, the prosecution alleged that the defendants fabricated a presidential appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and allegedly signed by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.

The charge further claimed that the suspects forged official presidential letterheads and several State House correspondences, including documents relating to office allocation, collaboration with government agencies and approvals connected to the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The government also alleged that between 2024 and 2025, Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the council despite the agency having no legal existence.

Presidency Rejects Bribery Allegations

Adeyemi recently alleged that Gbajabiamila demanded ₦400 million, alongside an additional ₦200 million, to facilitate his appointment as head of a federal agency.

He further claimed the Chief of Staff requested 48 per cent of the agency’s proposed ₦27.4 billion take-off grant.

The Presidency, however, dismissed the allegations as false and maintained that Adeyemi was never appointed by President Tinubu.

It also insisted that the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, which Adeyemi claims to head, does not exist as a recognised government institution.

Adeyemi Maintains Agency Is Genuine

Despite the criminal charges, Adeyemi has continued to insist that he is the legitimate Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

He has challenged the Presidency to establish an independent investigative panel and subject official documents allegedly signed by Gbajabiamila to forensic examination.

However, the Presidency said multiple investigations involving the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Nigeria Police Force found no evidence that Adeyemi was ever appointed by the Federal Government.

Police Detail Findings

According to investigators, the case originated from a petition submitted by the Office of the Chief of Staff after suspicious appointment letters purportedly issued from the office surfaced.

Police alleged that forged documents bearing fake signatures, official seals and reference numbers were used to create the impression that Adeyemi headed a legitimate federal agency.

Investigators said Adeyemi was arrested on October 27, 2025, at an office where he allegedly operated as Director-General of the purported council.

Searches carried out at the office and his residence in APC Quarters, Suleja, Niger State, reportedly led to the recovery of several documents and exhibits linked to the investigation.

Police further disclosed that Adeyemi told investigators the alleged appointment letter was procured for him by one Dolapo Babatunde Tanimola.

However, investigators claimed subsequent findings revealed that Tanimola had died in a hotel fire in Abuja, a development they said was confirmed by his family, hospital officials and church records.

Financial Investigation

The police also revealed that financial intelligence obtained from the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) showed that Adeyemi allegedly operated 34 active bank accounts across different commercial banks.

Investigators further alleged that he opened an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the name of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

Based on the findings, the police concluded that a prima facie case had been established against Adeyemi, accusing him of forging presidential documents and falsely presenting himself as a Federal Government appointee.

The matter is expected to proceed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, where Falana will defend Adeyemi against the charges.
