The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced a major upgrade to its digital certificate platform, allowing candidates who sat for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to access, download and share their certificates online.

The examination body announced the development in a statement issued on Friday, August 21, saying the digital certificates are now available to candidates through its official platform.
“The 2026 WASSCE for School Candidate Certificate is now available for access on the WAEC Digital Certificate Platform,” the council stated.
The development is expected to make the process of obtaining WASSCE certificates faster and more convenient, particularly for candidates who need the documents for university admission, employment, scholarship applications or other official purposes.
How To Access Your WAEC Certificate Online
Under the upgraded system, candidates can access their certificates digitally without having to rely solely on physical copies.
To retrieve the 2026 WASSCE certificate, candidates are required to visit WAEC’s official website and access the Digital Certificate Platform.
They should then select Certificate Access and provide the relevant examination and identification details requested by the platform.
Candidates may also be required to complete an identity verification process, including OTP authentication where applicable.
Once verification is completed, the digital certificate can be viewed and downloaded. Candidates can then save the document securely or share it with institutions or organisations that require it.
WAEC has also encouraged candidates to use its official WAEC Digital Certificate mobile application, available through the Google Play Store, to access their certificates.
Certificate Verification Also Available
The upgraded platform does not only serve candidates.
WAEC said it also provides a Certificate Confirmation service for institutions, employers and other organisations seeking to verify the authenticity of certificates presented by candidates.
This means organisations can use the platform to confirm whether a candidate’s certificate is genuine, potentially making the verification process quicker and more efficient.
The digital certificate platform is separate from WAEC’s examination result-checking portal. Candidates should therefore note that checking their WASSCE results and accessing their certificates are two different processes.
2026 WASSCE Results
The development comes after WAEC released the results of the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates.
The 2026 examination was conducted between April 21 and June 19, with candidates drawn from more than 24,200 secondary schools.

According to WAEC, 1,950,726 candidates participated in the examination, while 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent, obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
For candidates who still need to check their examination results, WAEC said they must generate the required PIN and serial number through its official channels before accessing the result-checking portal.
The introduction of downloadable digital certificates marks another step in WAEC’s shift towards electronic services, giving candidates easier access to one of the most important documents associated with their secondary school education.
