United States President Donald Trump will take part in the trophy presentation ceremony at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, according to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Infantino confirmed that Trump will attend the tournament’s final match and join him in handing the World Cup trophy to the eventual champions after the game.

The 2026 World Cup final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium, where both men are expected to watch the match before participating in the closing ceremony.

Infantino Praises Trump’s Support

Speaking during an appearance on Fox & Friends, Infantino described his relationship with Trump as close and praised the U.S. president for his support of FIFA and the World Cup project.

According to the FIFA chief, collaboration between football’s governing body and the U.S. administration has been important to the successful organisation of the expanded 2026 tournament.

Infantino stated that he and Trump would be together for the final and would jointly present the trophy to the winning team at the end of the competition.

The FIFA president also suggested that the American leader had played a significant role in facilitating preparations for the global football showpiece in the United States.

Trophy Presentation Plan Draws Attention

The announcement comes months after Trump attracted headlines during the final of the FIFA Club World Cup in New Jersey.

Following Chelsea FC’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain, Trump joined the post-match ceremony and personally handed the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James.

His extended presence on the podium during the celebrations generated widespread discussion among football fans and media outlets, with several players appearing surprised as he remained alongside the team during their victory celebrations.

Not the First Time a Political Leader Has Been Involved

While FIFA presidents traditionally oversee World Cup trophy presentations, political leaders have occasionally participated in the ceremony throughout the tournament’s history.

Trump’s involvement in the 2026 final presentation will therefore follow a precedent that has seen heads of state share the spotlight during some of football’s most iconic moments.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the first edition of the tournament to feature 48 teams.
