American actor RJ Mitte, who rose to international fame for playing Walter White Jr. in the acclaimed television drama Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34.

Mitte died on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Brownsville, Texas, according to local authorities and his representatives.
His representatives confirmed his death to CBS News but did not disclose the cause. A Cameron County official also said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death was ongoing.
The actor’s death marks the loss of a performer whose work extended beyond television into philanthropy and advocacy for people living with disabilities.
Rise To Fame Through ‘Breaking Bad’
Mitte became widely recognised for his portrayal of Walter White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston’s central character, in Breaking Bad.
The Emmy-winning AMC series, which aired from 2008 to 2013, followed Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who turned to manufacturing methamphetamine after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. He eventually built a drug empire with Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul.
Mitte appeared in 56 episodes of the series, earning recognition alongside the cast for its final season. In 2014, he shared a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series.
Beyond Breaking Bad, he appeared in productions including The Recall and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!).
A Life Dedicated To Disability Advocacy
Mitte was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was three years old. Rather than allowing his condition to define the limits of his career, he used his public profile to promote disability awareness, inclusion and greater representation in the entertainment industry.
His advocacy earned him the SAG-AFTRA Howard Russell Award in 2014. The honour recognises individuals who have helped advance opportunities for performers with disabilities and is named after Howard Russell, the first actor with a disability to win an Oscar.
Mitte also served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, supporting organisations dedicated to people with disabilities and children’s healthcare.
His representative described him as a “beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate.”
Philanthropy Beyond Hollywood
Away from the screen, Mitte was involved in charitable work through The Mitte Foundation, an Austin-based family charity of which he served as president.
The foundation supports marginalised communities in South Texas, reflecting the actor’s involvement in causes beyond his entertainment career.

His work as an advocate and philanthropist became an important part of his public identity, alongside the television role that introduced him to audiences around the world.
Engagement Before His Death
Mitte’s death comes about a year after he became engaged to his girlfriend, Kennedy Suarez.
He proposed to Suarez on her 30th birthday during the 56th annual Dia del Sol benefit in Carlsbad, California, in 2025. The fundraising event supports United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego.
The circumstances surrounding Mitte’s death remain under investigation, while his representatives have not publicly disclosed its cause.
For many viewers, he will be remembered as Walter White Jr. in one of television’s most celebrated dramas. His legacy, however, also includes his efforts to advance disability inclusion and support underserved communities.
