The UK High Commission in Nigeria has stepped up diplomatic engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections, with its top officials meeting key political figures and electoral authorities across the country.

In a statement shared on its official 𝕏 platform, the High Commission revealed that the UK High Commissioner, Richard Montgomery, alongside the Deputy High Commissioner, Gill Lever, held a series of discussions aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

Among those consulted were the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar; and the Labour Party’s 2023 flagbearer, Peter Obi.

The delegation also engaged with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan.

According to coverage by TVC News, the meetings focused on current political dynamics and preparations leading up to the next electoral cycle.

Discussions reportedly explored ways to enhance transparency, inclusiveness, and public trust in the electoral process.

The UK High Commission emphasized its commitment to collaborating with Nigerian stakeholders and international partners to promote free, fair, and credible elections.

It noted that ongoing engagements are part of broader efforts to support democratic institutions in the country.
