A disturbing video circulating online has triggered public anger after showing a police officer allegedly shooting a handcuffed suspect in Delta State.

Officer Arrested Over Shooting of Handcuffed Suspect in Delta State

In the clip, which lasts under two minutes, a young man later identified as 28-year-old Mene Ogidi is seen seated on the ground with his hands bound behind him.

Visibly shaken, he pleads with officers to spare his life, insisting he had been set up by an associate.

“Officers, abeg, I go tell you everything. Na my friend deceive me… I go carry you go the place,” he said in Pidgin, promising to cooperate.

Moments later, however, an officer in plain clothes is seen raising his rifle and firing at close range. The suspect collapses instantly as onlookers watch in shock.

After the shooting, officers reportedly lifted the motionless body into a Toyota Sienna belonging to the Nigeria Police Force, marked under the Effurun Area Command in Uvwie.

Initial reports suggest the suspect had been apprehended in connection with a firearm — allegedly a Beretta pistol with four rounds of ammunition — discovered in a parcel he was attempting to ship.

Police Response and Arrest

The Delta State Police Command has since confirmed the incident.

According to spokesperson Bright Edafe, the officer responsible, identified as ASP Nuhu Usman, has been taken into custody.

Authorities stated that the shooting violated Force Order 237 as well as established operational guidelines of the police.

Edafe explained that officers had been deployed following credible intelligence from the public, which led to Ogidi’s arrest.

However, the situation escalated when the team leader allegedly opened fire without justification.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Yemi Oyeniyi, immediately ordered Usman’s arrest and transfer to the state headquarters in Asaba.

The officer has since been moved to Abuja, where he is expected to face the Force Disciplinary Committee and possible prosecution.

The police command also extended condolences to Ogidi’s family, pledging that the case will be thoroughly investigated and justice pursued.
