NUC Approves Six New Degree Programmes For FUNAAB

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved six new undergraduate programmes for the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), with the programmes set to commence from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The development was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, Olasunkanmi Olajide.

According to the university, the approval followed a successful resource assessment conducted by the NUC to evaluate the institution’s preparedness to run the new programmes.

The commission assessed the availability of the required academic staff, facilities and other resources before granting approval.

Six New Programmes Approved

The newly approved full-time undergraduate programmes are:

  • B.Sc. Geophysics
  • B.Sc. Public Health
  • B.Sc. Biotechnology
  • B.Sc. Science Laboratory Technology
  • B.Sc. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
  • B.Sc. Clothing and Textile

The approval was conveyed in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Babatunde Kehinde, by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission.

According to the statement, the commission granted the approval after carefully reviewing the outcome of the resource assessment exercise carried out at the university.

Boost For Academic Expansion

FUNAAB described the approval as a major step in its efforts to expand academic opportunities and respond to emerging national and global demands in science, technology, health and sustainable development.

The university noted that the addition of the six programmes would further strengthen its capacity to produce skilled graduates for critical sectors of the economy.

“With the addition of the six programmes, the university is further strengthening its reputation as a leading institution dedicated to academic excellence, innovation and the production of highly skilled graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development,” the statement said.

The institution added that the approval reaffirmed its commitment to manpower development and its role in producing professionals equipped to address contemporary challenges across various sectors.
