The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom by two weeks following a strong turnout from Nigerians seeking passport services.
The exercise, which was initially scheduled to run until September 19, 2026, will now continue until October 3 across the London and Manchester centres.
The NIS announced the extension in a statement issued Friday by its Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, explaining that the decision was prompted by the growing demand for the intervention service.
According to the Service, the exercise has recorded significant progress despite some challenges encountered on its opening day.
It disclosed that 1,477 Nigerians were processed and enrolled within the first four days, while more than half of those applicants had already had their passports produced and dispatched to their respective addresses.
The NIS said the extension was approved under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to create additional capacity and enable more eligible Nigerians to access the service.
“Within the first four days of the exercise, a total number of 1477 Nigerians have been successfully processed and enrolled. Over half of those enrolled have already had their passports produced and dispatched to their respective addresses,” the Service stated.
Applicants seeking to use the intervention programme are required to book appointments through the official website of the High Commission of Nigeria in the UK.
The Appointment
The Immigration Service said applicants must attend their scheduled appointments with a completed application form and payment receipt, appointment slip, current passport where applicable, and a self-addressed return envelope.
It also reminded applicants that the passport application and payment process remains fully automated and cashless.
The applicable fees, according to the NIS, are $162 for a five-year passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year validity booklet. The Service stressed that applicants are not required to pay any additional fee to participate in the intervention exercise.
The NIS said details concerning the extended dates, participating centres and appointment procedures would be communicated through its official channels and those of the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom.
The Service further appealed to Nigerians in the UK to remain patient and cooperate with officials as it works to meet the increased demand.
It reaffirmed its commitment to providing efficient, transparent and responsive passport services to Nigerians living both within the country and abroad.
