The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has commenced the trial of billionaire businessman, Chief Ukatu Afamefuna Mallinson, alongside two others, over alleged unlawful possession and trafficking of 322 kilograms of Tramadol.

Naija News reports that Ukatu is being tried with Pius Enidom and Sunday Ifeanyi Ibekwute before Justice Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The defendants are facing multiple charges in suit number FHC/L/159C/2021 bordering on conspiracy, unlawful possession, and trafficking in a controlled substance.
Trial Starts Afresh After Judge’s Transfer
The case began afresh before Justice Bogoro following the transfer of the former trial judge, Justice Peter Lifu, to the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.
The defendants were initially arraigned in 2022 and had pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against them by the NDLEA.
According to the prosecution, the defendants allegedly conspired on May 4, 2021, in Ikeja, Lagos, to illegally possess 322 kilograms of Tramadol without authorisation.
NDLEA Presents First Witness
At Monday’s sitting, the prosecution counsel, Adekunle Adebajo and Owoyomi, informed the court that the matter was scheduled for full commencement of trial.

The NDLEA subsequently called its first witness, operative Dogo Hyelda Moses, who narrated his role in the arrest and handling of the suspects.
Moses told the court that the defendants and the seized exhibits were handed over to him as part of the agency’s investigation process.
The witness was cross-examined by defence lawyers, including Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) B.C. Igwilo, Omon Omofoma, and Ayowande Olatunji.
Justice Bogoro adjourned the matter until November 5 for continuation of hearing, as the prosecution prepares to call additional witnesses to establish its case.
