Kwankwaso Hints at NDC-ADC Alliance Ahead of 2027 Election

Former Kano State Governor and former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has hinted at a possible political alliance between the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso Hints at NDC-ADC Alliance Ahead of 2027 Election

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, Kwankwaso said discussions and political realignments were ongoing across the country, stressing that both parties could still work together before the elections.

According to him, many older politicians remain focused on issues such as religion and ethnicity, while younger Nigerians are more concerned about competent leadership and national progress.

“The NDC and ADC may eventually collaborate before the election,” he said, adding that the political atmosphere in the country is rapidly changing.

Kwankwaso also addressed his recent political move involving former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, noting that the growing support for the NDC since their alignment reflects Nigerians’ desire for a new direction.

He claimed that citizens both within and outside the country had begun mobilising in support of the party, with new offices reportedly being opened in several locations.

2 Million Votes Contribution

The former governor further revisited his role in the 2015 presidential election, revealing that he and his political structure contributed nearly two million votes to help former President Muhammadu Buhari secure victory.

Despite that support, Kwankwaso said neither he nor the constituencies he represented received recognition or political benefits from the administration that followed.

“I worked tirelessly and risked a lot politically during that period, but unfortunately, there was no meaningful reward for our efforts,” he stated.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999, Kwankwaso said former President Olusegun Obasanjo performed to the best of his ability, while the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua struggled with serious health challenges during his administration.

A Turbulent Era

He also described the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan as politically turbulent due to controversies surrounding an alleged agreement on a single-term arrangement.

On the current administration, Kwankwaso said many Nigerians were dissatisfied and eager for political change.

He argued that the challenges experienced under successive governments had increased public support for the NDC.

The former NNPP flagbearer also explained why he supports zoning the NDC presidential ticket to the South in 2027, saying effective leadership should not be judged by region or ethnicity.

Drawing from his political experience, Kwankwaso maintained that Nigeria’s progress depends more on visionary and committed leadership than on where a president comes from.

He concluded that Nigerians, especially young people, are now prioritising competence, determination, and accountability over sectional politics.
