The quiet of a residential neighbourhood in Bauchi was shattered by a gruesome discovery after the lifeless body of a former All Progressives Congress (APC) women leader, Jemimah Dutse, was found inside her home.

Dutse, a 49-year-old politician who previously served as the APC Women Leader in Bauchi South, was discovered in a pool of blood at her residence in Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, Bauchi.
The circumstances surrounding her death have now triggered a murder investigation, with the Bauchi State Police Command beginning efforts to determine who was behind the killing and what may have led to it.
A disturbing discovery inside her residence
According to the police, Dutse’s body was discovered on October 3, 2026, after a 49-year-old man from the neighbourhood reported the incident at the ‘E’ Division.
The discovery reportedly painted a grim picture.
Police said the deceased was found inside her residence with her throat allegedly slit by unidentified assailants.
The motive for the killing remains unknown, while no suspect has been publicly identified by the authorities.
The development has raised questions about what happened inside the residence before the discovery and whether the killing was targeted.
Police move case to homicide detectives
Following the report, detectives attached to the division were deployed to the scene.
The officers documented the scene as part of their preliminary investigation before the body was evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for medical examination and autopsy.
The police said the autopsy and other investigative procedures would form part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding Dutse’s death.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has also ordered that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more specialised investigation.
Who killed Jemimah Dutse?
For now, that remains the central question.
The police have not disclosed any suspect, motive or possible lead in the investigation.
What is known is that Dutse was found dead inside her own residence and that the manner of death has led authorities to treat the incident as a suspected murder.
The absence of a publicly identified suspect has left room for questions about the events leading up to the discovery.

Political associates mourn
Dutse’s death has also sent shockwaves through her family, friends and political associates, particularly those who knew her from her involvement in the APC in Bauchi South.
The Bauchi Police Command expressed condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and political associates while assuring the public that investigators would pursue the case.
The command said its investigation is aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the killing and bringing those responsible to justice.
For now, the residence where Dutse was found has become the starting point of an investigation that could reveal the events behind a death that has left both her political associates and the wider community searching for answers.
The police said further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
