It was supposed to be another rainy night in Borno State.
The skies had opened.
Visibility was poor.
Most people were asleep.
But somewhere in the darkness, armed insurgents were already making their move.
Under the cover of heavy rainfall and thick night fog, terrorists launched a coordinated attack on a military base in the North-East, hoping the weather would become their greatest ally.
Instead, they met fierce resistance.
By sunrise, the battle had left eight security personnel dead, several others wounded, and yet another reminder that Nigeria’s war against terrorism is far from over.
Terrorists Strike At 3 A.M.
According to military authorities, the attack occurred around 3 a.m. at the Forward Operating Base in Mandara-Girau, under the 25 Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai.

Injured Troops Airlifted To Safety
The battle also left several personnel wounded.
Military authorities disclosed that the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai swiftly evacuated the injured soldiers for urgent medical treatment.
According to the military, those receiving treatment are currently in stable condition.
The rapid response is being viewed as critical in preventing further casualties.
Despite The Attack, The Base Still Stands
Perhaps the biggest message from the military’s statement was clear:

Despite the surprise attack.

The Forward Operating Base remains under military control.
