Justice Salim Ibrahim issued the order on Monday after Dankaka was arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) on two counts of alleged cybercrime.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the DSS filed the case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/699/2026, on October 22, alleging that Dankaka committed the offences in October 2026.

In the first count, the prosecution accused Dankaka and other persons said to be at large of using his Facebook account, identified as Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya, to threaten to release alleged nude videos and photographs of the Kano governor.

The charges

The DSS told the court that the alleged publication was false and was intended to cause annoyance, inconvenience, insult and injury to Yusuf.

The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Section 27(1)(6) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended, and were punishable under Section 24(1) of the same law.

When the matter came up, DSS counsel, Yusuf Afegbua, informed the court that the case was scheduled for hearing.

Dankaka’s counsel, Kauna Penzin, also told the court that the defence was ready to proceed.

Following the reading of the charges, the defendant denied the allegations.

Afegbua subsequently asked the court to fix a date for trial and sought an order remanding Dankaka at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The defence counsel did not oppose the application.

Justice Ibrahim granted the request and adjourned the case until December 7 for trial.

The court further ordered that Dankaka remain in custody pending the next hearing.
