Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has voiced strong optimism about the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the party is poised to reclaim the presidency in Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja during the 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of a PDP faction aligned with him, Makinde acknowledged the party’s internal struggles but insisted they do not diminish its chances of returning to power at the national level.
Addressing party leaders and stakeholders, the governor expressed confidence that the meeting would mark the beginning of a resurgence for the PDP.
According to him, the gathering would lay the groundwork for producing successful candidates across all tiers of government in the next election cycle.
“We are setting the stage here,” he said, emphasizing that the outcomes of the meeting would extend beyond internal resolutions. “From this platform, we will produce members of State Houses of Assembly, Representatives, Senators, Governors—and ultimately, the next President of Nigeria.”
During the session, the faction also approved the formation of a 13-member caretaker committee to steer party affairs.
The committee will be led by Tanimu Turaki as chairman, with Taofeek Arapaja serving as National Secretary.

The resolution to establish the caretaker body followed a motion presented by Tony Aziegbemi and supported by Clement Fagboyede.
Other members of the committee include Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi, and Okechukwu Obiechina, all tasked with guiding the party through its transitional phase ahead of the 2027 elections.
