2027 Elections: APC Races to Submit Tinubu, National Assembly Candidates to INEC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it remains on track to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline of July 11 for the submission and uploading of its presidential and National Assembly candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party officials disclosed that the exercise, which involves uploading nomination details onto INEC’s electronic portal, is already at an advanced stage, with most candidate records reportedly processed.

A senior member of the APC National Working Committee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said preparations for the final submission were progressing smoothly and that the party was confident of meeting the deadline without disruption.

According to the source, details of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate are expected to be uploaded before midweek, alongside the final batch of outstanding nominations.

“We are progressing smoothly with the uploading of the details of our National Assembly candidates,” the official said. “We expect that by next Wednesday at the latest, the details of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate will also be uploaded. The APC is confident of meeting the July 11 deadline.”

Technical Operations

Inside the party’s ICT department at the Muhammadu Buhari House national secretariat in Abuja, officials said technical operations have continued without interruption as the APC interfaces with INEC’s candidate submission portal.

Sources within the department added that the details of several principal officers of the 10th National Assembly, as well as a number of serving lawmakers, have already been successfully uploaded.

They further revealed that four sitting governors — AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State — were among those whose nomination details had also been submitted, following their emergence as senatorial candidates of the party.

The submission process comes amid a wider internal review triggered by disputes from the APC primaries, which reportedly generated hundreds of petitions from dissatisfied aspirants.

Following the appeals process, the party revised its earlier list, removing six senatorial and 19 House of Representatives candidates initially selected from the May primaries. The affected constituencies span Abia, Kogi, Taraba, Benue, Ebonyi, Ondo, Kaduna, Niger and Kwara states.

The adjustments, according to party sources, were based on recommendations of the APC Primary Election Appeal Committee and were formally communicated to INEC in a letter signed by National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and National Secretary Ajibola Basiru.

Petitions From Aggrieved Aspirants

APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka confirmed that the party received more than 700 petitions from aggrieved aspirants following its primaries, which necessitated the review and subsequent changes in some constituencies.

He explained that while some candidates were replaced, others retained their tickets after successfully scaling through the appeal process.

Morka, however, declined to specify when the party would publicly release its final list of candidates, saying priority was being given to completing the INEC submission process.

“Our immediate focus is ensuring that all approved candidates properly complete and return their Form EC9 nomination documents for upload before the deadline,” he said, adding that internal publication of the list remains secondary at this stage.

Despite the adjustments, several high-profile APC figures, including serving governors contesting senatorial seats, are said to have retained their nominations as the party moves to finalise compliance with INEC’s timetable.
