The Zamfara State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jamil Jibo Magayaki, has officially resigned from the party and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Magayaki confirmed his defection in a statement shared on his social media platforms, where he announced his decision to align with the ruling party.
According to him, the move was influenced by the prevailing political situation in Zamfara State and the need to work with a platform he believes can better address the state’s pressing challenges.
“I, Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, the Zamfara State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hereby announce my formal defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),” he stated.
He explained that his decision was guided by what he described as the current political reality in the state, noting that the APC appears better positioned to tackle issues such as insecurity, development, and effective governance for the people of Zamfara.
More Defection
Magayaki’s defection comes shortly after the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, also confirmed his decision to leave the PDP for the APC.
The governor’s position was made public on Monday through a statement issued by his media aide, Nuhu Anka.
Earlier, the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mani Malam Mummuni, had announced the governor’s move in a video that quickly circulated online.
In the footage, Mummuni was seen celebrating the shift to the APC alongside other members of the state cabinet.
In the statement confirming the development, Governor Lawal said the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders across the state.
Internal Disputes
He attributed his exit from the PDP to prolonged internal disputes, leadership tensions, and unresolved structural issues within the party at both national and state levels.
Lawal added that joining the APC was a step taken in the broader interest of Zamfara, stressing that the move was aimed at ensuring stability, progress, and sustainable development in the state.
