Wike Terminates Apo–Karshi Road Contract

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has officially terminated the contract for the 13-kilometre Apo–Karshi Road, citing years of delay and non-performance by the contractor, Kakatar Construction Company Ltd.

The contract, first awarded in 2011 under former FCT Minister Bala Mohammed, has suffered repeated setbacks, leaving the critical road project abandoned for over a decade. Wike described the prolonged delay as unacceptable, stressing that Abuja residents deserve timely infrastructure delivery.

The FCT Minister said the administration will take immediate steps to re-award the project to a more competent contractor who can complete it within a realistic timeline.

The Apo–Karshi axis has long been plagued by traffic congestion, and the road—once completed—is expected to serve as a major alternative route for commuters.
