Wike Speaks On Nnamdi Kanu Listing Him As Witness, Goodluck Jonathan’s 2027 Bid, And His PDP Loyalty

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has addressed recent controversies surrounding his alleged involvement in Nnamdi Kanu’s trial, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s rumored 2027 presidential bid, and questions over his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking in an exclusive interview with journalists in Abuja on Friday, Wike dismissed reports that the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, listed him as one of his defense witnesses, calling it a baseless rumor intended to stir unnecessary political tension.

“I have never been contacted by anyone regarding Nnamdi Kanu’s case, and I am not on any witness list. People just create stories to drag names into matters they know nothing about,” Wike stated.

On speculations that former President Goodluck Jonathan may contest the 2027 presidential election, Wike said Jonathan remains a respected national figure, but only he can speak for himself on political intentions.

“Dr. Jonathan is a man of integrity. If he decides to run, he will tell Nigerians himself. For now, I’m focused on my assignment as FCT Minister,” he added.

Addressing continued doubts about his political alignment, the former Rivers State governor reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, insisting that working with the APC-led federal government does not mean defection.

“I am still a proud member of the PDP. Serving in President Tinubu’s administration is about national service, not party politics. People need to understand that governance goes beyond partisan lines,” he said.

Wike also emphasized that his priority remains the transformation of the FCT, assuring residents of ongoing infrastructure upgrades and policy reforms to make Abuja a model city.
