Wendy Williams Claims She “Does Not Have” Medical Condition

Television personality Wendy Williams has publicly challenged the medical diagnosis and court ruling that placed her under a highly restrictive guardianship in 2022. According to recent interviews and filings, Williams argues she is “not cognitively impaired” and that the diagnosis of Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) used to justify the guardianship is inaccurate.

In a phone interview on The View, Williams stated:

“I don’t have frontotemporal dementia. How dare they say I am incapacitated. I do not.”

Her legal team has submitted documents contesting the condition, citing a recent independent neurologist’s examination that allegedly found no evidence of FTD.

Williams was placed under a court-ordered guardianship in New York after financial concerns and the diagnosis of FTD and primary progressive aphasia were disclosed.

Her guardianship guardian and their attorney maintain that Williams requires ongoing care and that the diagnosis stands. They have requested a new round of comprehensive medical evaluations, citing specialised neurological and psychological tests.

The dispute has reignited public debate on the guardianship system, autonomy, and how medical diagnoses are used in legal proceedings.
