The United States Consulate General in Lagos has announced a pre-departure orientation session for Nigerian students who have obtained valid US student visas, as part of efforts to prepare them for academic and social life in the United States.

According to the consulate, the orientation programme is designed to equip students with essential information on studying, living, and adapting to life in the US. Participants will receive guidance on academic expectations, campus culture, immigration regulations, travel preparations, and personal safety, as well as practical tips on adjusting to a new environment.
The event is scheduled to hold on Thursday, December 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and will bring together education advisers, consular officials, and returning students who will share first-hand experiences. The session aims to help new students avoid common challenges and make a smooth transition into the US education system.
The US Consulate encouraged all eligible Nigerian students with approved student visas to attend the programme, describing it as a valuable opportunity to gain clarity, ask questions, and connect with fellow students ahead of their departure.
