An uncle whose name was not disclosed has been arrested in Calabar by the police for setting up his 2 year old niece ablaze for passing faeces all around.
This is after a non-governmental organization in Calabar, Child Protection Network (CPN), rescued the 2-year old child (name withheld) in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The child was rescued in a critical condition and taken to Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, after she had been punished severely and burnt by her uncle who alleged that she passes “faeces all around.”
CrossRiverWatch gathered that, she is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital as confirmed by Mr. Kebe Ikpi of Basic Rights Counsel Initiative.
According to him, “The child is about 2years old. She leaves with her uncle in Akamkpa (her father’s elder brother, name withheld).
“Her uncle tied her to a guava tree and set her on fire for passing faeces all around.
“As a result of the fire, she sustained high degree injuries. Her feet are burnt. She is not able to stand nor sit. Apart from the injuries, she is looking malnourished and terribly under weight.
She allegedly sleeps outside on a make shift bed not even good enough for a dog let alone a human being.
