A United States congressional delegation led by Congressman Riley Moore has concluded its fact-finding mission to Nigeria following growing allegations of genocide and widespread insecurity in parts of the country.
The delegation, which met with survivors, civil society organisations, religious leaders, and government officials, is expected to submit a comprehensive report to U.S. President Donald Trump before the end of the month. Their findings are anticipated to influence America’s next steps regarding human rights, foreign aid, and security cooperation with Nigeria.
Congressman Moore noted that the visit was crucial for gathering firsthand evidence and understanding the scale of violence affecting communities across several regions. He added that the United States remains committed to supporting stability, justice, and protection of vulnerable populations.
The Nigerian government has insisted that the crisis is driven by terrorism, criminality, and economic pressures—not targeted religious persecution.
