Talks between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have failed to produce a major breakthrough toward ending the war in Ukraine, despite renewed diplomatic expectations. The high-level engagement, which was closely watched by international observers, ended without a clear agreement or roadmap for a peace deal.

Sources familiar with the discussions said the talks focused on possible pathways to a ceasefire, security guarantees for Ukraine, and the role of the United States in any future negotiations with Russia. However, deep disagreements reportedly remain over territorial issues, NATO involvement, and the conditions under which negotiations with Moscow could proceed.
President Zelenskyy maintained that Ukraine cannot accept any peace plan that compromises its territorial integrity or rewards Russian aggression. He reiterated Kyiv’s position that a complete withdrawal of Russian forces remains a key condition for lasting peace. Trump, on the other hand, emphasized the need for rapid conflict resolution, reportedly arguing that prolonged war continues to destabilize Europe and the global economy.
Despite the lack of tangible outcomes, both sides described the meeting as “frank” and “constructive,” suggesting that dialogue may continue. Analysts, however, say the absence of concrete progress highlights the complexity of the Ukraine war and the difficulty of reconciling competing strategic interests.
