President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the withdrawal of police officers providing security for Very Important Persons (VIPs) across Nigeria, calling for a redeployment of resources to address more pressing public safety needs.

In a move aimed at strengthening frontline policing, the President has ordered police authorities to reassign those officers to roles where they can better contribute to the fight against crime, rather than guarding VIPs.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the decision is rooted in Tinubu’s commitment to improving citizens’ security, insisting that state resources must be used where they are most needed.
Police leadership is said to be implementing the directive immediately, moving to reallocate officers to regular crime-fighting and community policing duties, including patrolling, investigations, and protecting vulnerable areas.
