President Bola Tinubu has directed that the recently introduced cashless toll payment system at Nigeria’s airports be suspended with immediate effect.
The directive follows widespread complaints over severe traffic build-up and operational bottlenecks linked to the policy.
The system, rolled out by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), was designed to modernize toll collections and reduce cash handling at airport entry points.
However, instead of easing access, it triggered extended delays as motorists, passengers, and airport workers grappled with payment procedures and technical challenges.
The resulting congestion reportedly caused frustration at major airport terminals across the country, prompting swift intervention from the presidency.
