Tinubu Approves Massive Budget Increase

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a significant increase in the budgetary allocation of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), raising it from about ₦3 billion to nearly ₦20 billion.

The development was disclosed by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Dr. Abubakar Bello, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.

According to Dr. Bello, the substantial budget boost is aimed at strengthening the bureau’s operational capacity, enhancing compliance monitoring, and improving the enforcement of asset declaration requirements for public officers across the country. He noted that the increased funding will enable the CCB to modernize its systems, expand nationwide coverage, and effectively carry out its constitutional mandate.

The CCB is responsible for enforcing ethical standards in public service, including the declaration of assets by public officials and the investigation of alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct. In recent years, the bureau has faced funding constraints that limited its effectiveness.

Observers say the approval signals President Tinubu’s renewed commitment to anti-corruption reforms, public sector accountability, and institutional strengthening under his administration.

With the expanded budget, the CCB is expected to scale up digital asset declaration platforms, improve staff capacity, and collaborate more effectively with related anti-corruption agencies.
