Timaya Says It’s Better to Have Children Without Marriage

In the clip circulating on social media, the singer suggested that having children without getting married may sometimes be a better option.

According to him, many marriages often fail, so people should not feel pressured to tie the knot.

“Just have your children, they will grow. This marriage thing no dey work,” he said in the video, drawing laughter and mixed reactions from those around him.

The outspoken singer, born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in 1980, has previously made it clear that marriage has never been a priority for him.

During a 2024 interview on Naija FM, Timaya revealed that he has never felt the need to formalize his relationships, despite being a father.

He explained that while he is not particularly interested in marriage, he cannot completely rule out the possibility that his views could change in the future.

Timaya, who gained widespread recognition in the mid-2000s with his breakout hit Dem Mama, is the father of four children with three different women.

His first two daughters, Emmanuella and Gracey, were born in 2012 and 2015 to interior designer Barbara Fumnaya Nwaokolo.

He later welcomed a son, Emmanuel, in 2018 with Tamar, and a fourth child, Maya, in 2020 with businesswoman Dunnie Onasanya.
