In a dramatic case that has sent shockwaves through the UK security establishment, six men have been jailed for their roles in an arson plot allegedly ordered by Russia’s Wagner Group.

According to British prosecutors, the men were recruited to set fire to a property in London earlier this year as part of a foreign-backed sabotage campaign targeting critical infrastructure and individuals linked to Ukraine’s allies.
Investigators say the operation was coordinated remotely by Wagner operatives, highlighting growing concerns about the group’s covert influence and espionage activities across Europe.
“This case underscores the dangerous reach of foreign networks seeking to destabilize democratic nations,” a UK counterterrorism official said after the sentencing.
The suspects received sentences ranging from four to twelve years in prison, depending on their level of involvement.
Authorities described the convictions as a major victory for national security, while intelligence agencies warned that Wagner-affiliated operatives remain active in various European countries despite international sanctions.
The case has reignited debate about Russia’s use of proxy actors to conduct low-level attacks and spread political unrest across the West.
