Nollywood actor Okon Lagos has sparked nationwide debate after openly criticising Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, describing him as a “proven banditry apologist.”

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, the actor accused Nigerian authorities of lacking the “courage and political will” to prosecute Gumi for allegedly promoting or defending bandits responsible for widespread violence across the country.
Okon Lagos questioned why individuals linked with terror-related activities are rarely held accountable, warning that Nigeria cannot win the war against insecurity while influential figures are “untouchable.” He also called on security agencies to treat all forms of extremism equally, regardless of the personalities involved.
His comments have triggered mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians echoing his frustration over rising insecurity, while others caution against inflammatory accusations without legal proof
