Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has stirred fresh debate after claiming that foreign forces are actively empowering terrorists operating in Nigeria.

Gumi, who has remained a central figure in national conversations on insecurity, alleged that external actors are supplying support that strengthens armed groups across the country. According to him, Nigeria’s worsening insecurity cannot be fully understood without examining “international interests fueling the conflict.”
His comments come amid rising concerns over escalating banditry, mass abductions, and terrorist attacks in several northern states. Security analysts say the allegations—if true—could have serious implications for Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy and regional stability.
The Federal Government has not responded to Gumi’s claims as public debate intensifies online.
