Seun Kuti Calls for Law to Regulate Pastors’ Miracle Claims in Nigeria

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has sparked widespread debate after calling on the Federal Government to regulate pastors who claim to perform miracles.

Seun Kuti Calls for Law to Regulate Pastors’ Miracle Claims in Nigeria

In a recent live video, the singer argued that individuals who publicly declare they can carry out miraculous acts should be legally required to prove such claims.

He suggested that any pastor making these assertions must undergo proper verification under controlled medical conditions.

Kuti proposed that such tests should be conducted at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where medical professionals can independently confirm whether the claimed miracle is genuine.

Beyond The Testimonies

According to him, testimonies shared in churches or online should not be accepted as evidence without scientific validation.

He further emphasized that the alleged miracle must be repeatable and demonstrated multiple times before qualified experts.

For instance, he noted that claims like restoring sight should involve medically verifiable cases, rather than situations that cannot be objectively assessed.

The singer maintained that anyone unable to substantiate their claims after making them should face serious consequences.

In his view, introducing strict laws would help curb what he described as misleading practices and protect the public from deception.

Kuti went as far as suggesting severe penalties, including long-term imprisonment, for those who fail to prove their claims, insisting that accountability is necessary if such declarations are to be taken seriously.

Miracle And The Law

He said:  “A law should be made to ensure that no one is allowed to perform miracles, and anyone caught claiming to perform a miracle should be sent to jail.

“The only exception would be if the miracle can be proven at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

“They should perform the miracle for ten people at LUTH. I do not want to hear about fake miracles, because your God can do all things.

I am not talking about miracles that claim to heal someone who has been blind their entire life.

In this case I’m talking about someone with no eyeballs at all and if the miracle is real, the person should gain full vision. If you cannot perform the miracle, you should be held accountable.

“If a person is unable to perform the miracle, they should be sentenced to fifty years in prison.”
