Senior Nigerian military leaders on Wednesday touched down in Borno State in response to the recent wave of terrorist attacks in the region.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, alongside the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, arrived at the Maiduguri Air Force Base before heading directly to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI.

They were welcomed on arrival by the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, as well as other senior officers at approximately 11 a.m.

The visit included a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Maimalari Military Cantonment in Maiduguri, after which the top commanders moved into a closed-door strategy session.

The high-level trip follows recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri, which prompted President Bola Tinubu to direct military chiefs to temporarily relocate to the Borno State capital in a bid to contain the escalating security situation.
