Senate Confirms Tinubu’s New Service Chiefs

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s newly appointed Service Chiefs, following their nomination earlier this week as part of a major shake-up in the nation’s military leadership.

The confirmation came after the nominees appeared before the Senate for screening, during which they outlined their strategies for addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, and oil theft.

Those confirmed include:

General Olufemi Oluyede – Chief of Defence Staff

Major-General W. Shaibu – Chief of Army Staff

Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke – Chief of Air Staff

Rear Admiral I. Abbas – Chief of Naval Staff

The Senate commended President Tinubu for what lawmakers described as “a balanced and merit-based selection,” urging the new military chiefs to prioritize discipline, inter-agency cooperation, and the welfare of troops on the frontlines.

With the confirmation, the new Service Chiefs are expected to assume office immediately and drive Tinubu’s renewed security agenda aimed at restoring stability across the country.
