The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The confirmation was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio after lawmakers approved the nomination through a voice vote during the Committee of the Whole session on Wednesday.
Oyedele is set to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who will now serve as Minister of State in the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
The reshuffle marks the third portfolio Uzoka-Anite has held since joining the Tinubu administration.
Earlier in the day, the Senate conducted the screening of the ministerial nominee during plenary.
The process began after Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion requesting that Oyedele be admitted into the chamber for the confirmation proceedings.
Following the motion’s approval, Oyedele was escorted into the Senate chamber by the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Basheer Lado.
He arrived at approximately 2:21 p.m., accompanied by several government officials and associates.
Among those present with him were Ondo State Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, and former Minister of Defence, Tokunbo Kayode.
President Tinubu had nominated Oyedele for the position last week.
The announcement was confirmed in a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Before his nomination, Oyedele served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he played a key role in leading efforts to modernize and restructure Nigeria’s tax framework.
A native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, the 50-year-old economist and public policy expert has an extensive professional and academic background.
He earned a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
Oyedele has also participated in executive education programmes at globally respected institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
In the private sector, Oyedele built a distinguished career at PwC, where he spent 22 years after joining the firm in 2001. During his time there, he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
