Pope Francis Speaks on Killings in Nigeria

Pope Francis has addressed the rising concerns over violence in Nigeria, acknowledging that both Christians and Muslims are victims of widespread insecurity across several regions of the country.

According to the Pope

“In Nigeria, in certain areas, there is certainly danger for Christians but for all people. Christians and Muslims have been slaughtered. There’s a question of terrorism. There’s a question that has to do a lot with economics, if you will, in control of the lands that they have. Unfortunately, many Christians have died.”

The Pope highlighted that the violence is driven by a mix of terrorism, economic struggles, and conflicts over land control, stressing that the humanitarian situation cuts across religious lines.

His remarks come at a time when global attention is focused on Nigeria’s security challenges, including extremist attacks, banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes.

Pope Francis called for renewed efforts toward peace, justice, and protection of vulnerable communities.
